Happy New Year from St. Augustine School
As we set sail into a new year, our anchor in Christ is wrapping around the staff and students and carrying them through a journey of grace, peace and love in 2026.
St. Augustine students closed up their 2025 year with a Christmas concert, Yulewitness: a Christmas Podcast that featured all of the significant people in the Nativity, recounting their role and anticipated excitement for the birth of Jesus Christ. The songs were sung beautifully as the lyrics resonated within the walls of St. Augustine Parish where the concert took place.
During the season of Advent, each of our classrooms received a gift of a Lego-brick Nativity set Advent Calendar that each student participated in putting together daily. What a beautiful message we could share with our students that our Faith is almost like putting a puzzle together.
At first, we only had a few pieces. Some made sense on their own, others didn’t seem to fit anywhere and we needed to read the instructions or ask a friend for help to piece everything together. We may feel unsure, even frustrated, because we can’t see the whole picture or end product, but we trust that the Nativity Scene exists.
As we keep going, praying, learning, loving, and trusting God, more pieces begin to connect. Experiences, Scripture, and the people God places in our lives start to form patterns. Even the difficult pieces, which we might wish weren’t there, turn out to be necessary for the picture to be complete.
We didn’t put the Advent Nativity Scene together all at once. Faith grows slowly, piece by piece. Sometimes we step back and realize that what once looked confusing now makes sense in a new way. And even when the scene isn’t finished, we trust the One who sees the whole picture and gently guides our hands as we build it.
Before we left for our Christmas break, the students had a completed Nativity Scene which reflects the true meaning of Christmas; the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
